Q: Why are Jews so cheap?
A: This view is fundamentally flawed but it does have some historical ground. Throughout the Diaspora, Jews as a cultural entity have always displayed a profound respect for the culture of education and personal growth. Sociologically speaking, Jewish families place perhaps more emphasis than other subcultures on hyperattentive child nurturing. This trait, in turn, has produced very clever and upwardly mobile generations who have succeeded in almost any and all environments, hostile or otherwise. As such, Jews were frequently financially better off than their gentile neighbors. They were often borrowed from -- hence the stereotypical view that Jews are great with money and banking.

But it is not so! To further entrench anti-semitic sentiment in the European population, local ordinances generally forbade Jews from engaging in any sorts of trade EXCEPT banking and money-lending, all of it with the sole purpose, of course, of perpetuating the already ubiquitous stereotype. The powers that be ordained these jobs onto Jews. How mean!

You can see then, that the Jews are hardly thrifty wealth hoarders by nature. Of course, this rejection of the stereotype is not a defense on behalf of Rob and Seva. They, admittedly, are just plain cheap.
